AIESEC Week

This event was held by the outgoing Global Community Development Program portfolio. Vice President of oGCDP, Laura Birir and her members mostly but other portfolios helped oGCDP promote the event during the 3rd week of January.

AIESEC week aimed at recruiting as many exchange participants as possible. There were many programs around the world that were on offer for students to do their Community Based Attachment – a requirement of Strathmore University – and by conducting this event, IM & COMM and mainly oGCDP saw it fit that the days of the week be themed to really grab the attention of the Strathmore Community.

There were 5 themes. Monday Blues ensured most of the AIESEC members dressed in blue outfits. Cheeky Tuesday saw members of the AIESEC members dance behind unsuspecting Strathmore Community members (guards, lecturers, students etc.) and then hand out flyers promoting the programs on offer in the various countries. Wii Wednesday had members of the Strathmore Community play the Nintendo Wii during the lunch hours and it helped relax our fellow students and lecturers. Ultimate Thursday showcased a flash mob dance choreographed by our very own Vice President of Business Development, Edna Maritim. Several members joined in the fun as we promoted exchange further. Lastly, Family Friday took advantage of the lunch break that most students enjoy on Fridays considering the fewer amount of classes on that day and AIESEC members and exchange participants had lunch together. This helped show that the AIESEC in Strathmore community was united and quite a lovable bunch of people.

Some of the programs ranged in various sectors such as health, environment, drug abuse, career development, IT programs, Human Rights and even Children’s rights. The programs’ duration would be 6 weeks long and the total cost would cover travel insurance, accommodation, food, transport and the flights (to and fro).

Overall, it was a success and wonderful, proactive attempt by AIESEC in Strathmore to raise the numbers of exchange participants. Over 180 students registered and over 40 members are currently going through exchange participant curriculums that help educate our fellow students on what to expect at their various destinations.

Thank you to all the members of AIESEC in Strathmore that helped make this happen and special thanks go to VP oGCDP Laura Birir for the brilliant performance.
